Promotional products and marketing are everywhere. They work very well together, kind of like peanut butter and jelly makes a great sandwich. Everyone owns promotional items that they have received from businesses at one time or another, like coffee mugs with a company’s name or slogan on them. The more common items are pens, magnetic refrigerator calendars, beach umbrellas, T-shirts and sweatshirts.

Products that are used to promote a business, like pens and coffee mugs, are a subtle way of marketing. When people use these items, other people will see them. Displaying the company name emblazoned on the product is advertising without even uttering a word.

Companies that sell promotional products usually sell these items in bulk amounts. A business can save a lot of money by purchasing in bulk, since these products are generally inexpensive. As a result, marketing with promotional pens or promotional gifts is a cost-effective plan for any business.

Promotional pens are popular to give away to consumers, employees and/or other business partners. Most people like to have a pen handy, whether it is in the car or in their pencil cup at the office. In many offices, pens are a hot commodity, regardless of where they come from and whose name is on them. The best form of promotional pen marketing is to allow it to be taken away and passed along from person to person and from place to place until it runs out.

Some businesses will buy these types of products and use them as promotional gifts to give to employees, like clocks, watches, items to go in an automobile or items that people will place on their desk. Businesses either give these items away as thank you goodies or gentle reminders so that people will remember their business.

Promotional items are popular at fairs and trade shows. Passersby are only too happy to have something free and will gladly take a handful if the items are set out in a bowl or are resting on a table. Once the person leaves, they share the wealth with friends and family. The items move along, serving as marketing tools.

Some businesses use these promotional gadgets to help with sales, like offering a gift with the business’ name and/or slogan on it if a customer purchases a certain item or spends a certain amount of money. Depending on what the free item is, it may be well worth it to the consumer to spend a little more to receive the free gift. When buying the regular item without the logo on it, it costs more in time and money.
