It seems as if more and more small local businesses are beginning to try to take their company to the next level by trying their hand at local Internet marketing. When done correctly, there is probably no other technique that is better than a good online campaign for getting more leads, acquiring more customers, and making more profits. Although there has been a lot of talk about the power of the search engines for achieving these things, many of the newer online entrepreneurs are forgetting the method that used to be the bread and butter of all local online marketing campaigns: writing effective articles. Let's take a closer look at what a burgeoning entrepreneur can do to begin cashing in on articles that he publishes on the Internet to promote his business.
The first thing a new entrepreneur should figure out once he decides to promote his product or service with articles that he has written is where he is going to publish them. Say that a young entrepreneur offers a local service in which he gives haircuts to poodles. He might decide that he wants to write several interesting articles in which he provides information about poodle hair cuts to potential customers. He must first determine where they will be published and discover any publishing requirements before putting together his ideas. He could write an article about the different styles of poodle haircuts; he could write an article about the history of poodle haircuts; he could write another one about the most successful poodle hair stylists; or he could write about all the benefits of regularly cutting the hair of a poodle. Once these written works have been composed, he will have to decide where they will be published. One popular option is a blog. Blogs can be run on free software, and they can even easily be appended to the existing Web site of the company. Another option is to publish them in a directory. The benefit of publishing articles in a popular directory is that they can be read by many more people than if they are published on a blog.
How these written works are composed is quite important. Although the entrepreneur will likely be eager to tell people about his great service, he should generally hold off on this until the last few sentences. Not only will some publishers ban his material, most people do not like to be overtly sold to. Instead, the business owner should try to make his words as interesting and informative as possible. Once the reader is dazzled by the great writing, the last few sentences can then gently steer the reader towards the business's Web site.
